The Growing Up Paradox explores the contradiction at the heart of growing up: the more we learn to navigate the adult world, the further we can drift from the essence that shaped us.
The work reflects on the tension between knowledge and innocence, experience and instinct, and the constructed adult self and the child that remains beneath it. Growing up demands that we acquire skills, expectations, identities, and ways of understanding the world — yet perhaps true growth also requires remembering what existed before all of them.
Through the language of toys, symbolism, and layered imagery, the painting explores this paradox as a continuous negotiation between becoming and remembering. Rather than seeing childhood and adulthood as opposing states, The Growing Up Paradox suggests that maturity may lie in bringing the two together: developing the ability to understand the world without losing the part of ourselves that first experienced it with wonder.
Available as a framed original and limited edition fine art prints.
